Since 2007, I have worked closely with the world famous Apollo Theater to help identify donors, plan events and raise awareness about the Apollo’s education programs. I have gained far more than I have given working with Jonelle Procope and her team over the last 9 years. The steady growth of the theater during Jonelle’s tenure is a stunning example of excellence. Observing her talent at bringing together people who equally understand and believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience art, I have learned so much about what it means to be a citizen who pays it forward.
In 2015, along with Marilyn Booker & Erika Liles, I enthusiastically agreed to co-chair Apollo EmpowHer (“EmpowHer”), the Apollo’s newly formed womens’ committee. EmpowHer is a group of dynamic, diverse and accomplished women working to develop and raise funds for even better opportunities and programs for children and teens experiencing the Apollo education programs. Members come together for networking opportunities, fundraising events and other activities to connect with the Apollo, the education programs we are supporting and each other.
